Potentially confusing breadcrumb display when clicking links to related objects

Hi,

When in a collection view, clicking a link to a related item in a table results in a breadcrumb structure like “Collection A / Related Item”. This seems to be expected behaviour (and reflects the path taken by the user to drill down to the item) but can be potentially confusing to users.

For instance, say a user is in the “Books” collection and clicks a link in the table to a related author object named “John Doe”. Assuming the author’s name is used as a display name, the breadcrumbs would therefore read “Books / John Doe”, which might confuse a user into thinking that they are looking at a book called “John Doe” and not an author.

What workarounds have others used to avoid this problem? Is it common to include the type of object in the display name?

Many thanks,
Adam
